The Task

RYOT partnered with Go90 Studio to produce two seasons of “Hypezilla,” an episodic talk show that utilized motion capture and Unreal engine to pilot the main character. The project aimed to showcase the potential of real-time character animation to create a unique and engaging experience for viewers.

My Approach
My role on the show was to supervise the CG character production. I worked closely with a small team to ensure that Hypezilla was designed and rigged to work seamlessly in a real-time environment. This involved crafting facial blendshapes, grooming real-time fur, and creating real-time dynamic clothing for the character. I was also responsible for the final motion capture adjustments and animation cleanup. This required an understanding of animation retargeting and the ability to quickly identify and correct any issues that arose during the production process.

Throughout the project, I collaborated closely with the rest of the team to ensure that the production ran smoothly during the motion capture phase, and that post-production work on animation made the character movements feel natural yet stylized and punchy.

Results
Thanks to the hard work of the team, Hypezilla aired on Go90 on schedule and without setbacks. The real-time character was a key part of the show's success, and the project demonstrated the potential of mocap technology and real-time animation. Overall, my role on the project was instrumental in ensuring that Hypezilla was visually appealing, functional in a real-time environment, and able to deliver a compelling talk show experience for viewers.
